Austin has a lot of things that come to mind when people think of the area. Music, culture and just be eccentric are some things that the area is best known, but Austin has something to offer that people often overlook – Roller Derby. Austin is home to some of the skaters rougher and tougher derby that the world has ever seen, and the surprising thing is that they are all women.
Roller derbies were once very popular all over the country, but in the last couple of decades seemed to disappear completely from view. The league is part of the Women's Fast Track Derby Association. The most popular roller banked League classic theme is the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls. This league has seven teams selected to compete in the months of January to August. They operate under their own set of rules and regulations, as this league is run by the skaters themselves.
The ladies of roller Texas Derby are all business when it comes to their sport. They are rough, tough and wild, doing everything necessary to ensure his team out of each meeting at the top. Do not be surprised to see punches, hair pulled, and the blood shed when you attend a roller derby, even in Austin. In fact, it would be surprising if its not there no. Taking part in a roller derby is more intense than the careers of their friends around the local skating rink in the free skate on Friday night, back in the 80s. Texas Roller derby is a serious sport that is fun to watch, but not for the faint of heart to play.
